No place in Indiana was hit harder by the Aug. 11 storms than Gary, a mostly Black city on the southern tip of Lake Michigan.
As of Monday, more than 8,600 customers, most of them in Gary, were still without power, according to the Northern Indiana Public Service Co. (NIPSCO).
